Audit readiness · Tauranga, New Zealand
Enterprise audit readiness, from controls to evidence
Most enterprise audits do not fail because the controls are missing. They fail because the evidence is incomplete, the ownership is unclear or the records no longer exist. Click IT designs the control environment, builds the evidence trail and tests it before your auditor does.
Preparation and remediation. We do not issue audit opinions.
Where audits stall
Four gaps that turn a review into a rebuild
These are the recurring findings in organisations that have the right intentions and the wrong operating habits.
Evidence assembled after the fact
Screenshots, spreadsheets and email approvals are reconstructed in the week before the audit. What should be a review becomes an archaeology project.
No clear control owner
Access reviews, change approvals and backup testing happen informally. When the auditor asks who owns the control, the answer is a team rather than a person.
Records that do not survive the year
Logs roll over, tickets are deleted and leavers' accounts are removed without a record. The control may have operated, but there is no proof it did.
Third parties left out of scope
Cloud platforms, managed providers and SaaS tools hold part of the control environment. Their responsibilities are rarely documented against yours.
What we prepare
Controls, evidence and the record behind them
Scope follows the audit you are facing, not a generic checklist. These are the areas we most often build or repair.
The independence line. Your auditor forms the opinion. We prepare, test internally and remediate. Keeping those roles separate is not a technicality - it is what makes the evidence credible to the auditor and to the board.
- IT general controls: access, change and operations
- Role-based access design and periodic access reviews
- Joiner, mover and leaver evidence
- Change management and release approval records
- Segregation-of-duties analysis across finance systems
- Backup, restore and disaster-recovery test evidence
- Logging, monitoring and incident response records
- Vendor and cloud responsibility mapping
- Security questionnaire and tender evidence packs
- Remediation plans with owners and dates
The audit-ready model
Ready is a way of operating, not a folder
A control environment that only exists in the weeks before an audit becomes an annual rebuild. We build one that produces evidence continuously.
Controls are designed and owned
Each control has a named owner, a defined frequency, a testable description and a clear link to the risk it addresses. No control exists only in a policy document.
Evidence is produced as work happens
Approvals, reviews and tests generate their own record in the systems you already use, so the evidence pack at audit time is a query rather than a scramble.
Reviews and remediation run on a schedule
Internal testing happens before the auditor arrives. Gaps are found, assigned and closed while there is still time to fix them.
Transaction-level evidence
When the audit question reaches the transactions
Controls test whether the process operated. They do not always answer whether the entries themselves make sense. ForensiQ, our own AI and data intelligence product, reconciles ledger, bank and operational records and traces each result back to its source document - so a sample-based question can be answered across the whole population.
That same analysis supports fraud and irregularity reviews, and it produces evidence in a form audit and legal advisers can test independently.
Evidence an auditor can follow
- Findings traced to source records and calculations
- Full-population testing rather than a sample where data allows
- Exception reports with owner and resolution status
- Access and approval patterns visible across systems
- Outputs suitable for management, board and auditor review
Working alongside your auditor
Support before, during and after the audit
We prepare the environment and the evidence, join walkthroughs, and turn findings into a plan with owners and dates. The opinion remains the auditor's.
Before
Readiness assessment against the audit scope, control design, evidence gap analysis and an internal test cycle with time to fix what fails.
During
Evidence packs assembled by control, walkthrough support, management responses and clear ownership of every open request.
After
Remediation plans with owners and dates, control changes implemented, and monitoring so the next audit starts from readiness rather than zero.
Preparing for ISO/IEC 27001 as well? Our ISO/IEC 27001 implementation work builds the management system and evidence that certification audits expect.
Questions
Enterprise audit, asked and answered
No. We do not issue audit opinions and we are not a registered audit provider. We prepare the control environment, the evidence and the internal testing that an external auditor or an internal audit function relies on. Independence rules mean the auditor must remain separate from that preparation work.
Most commonly financial-control and IT general control audits, internal audit programmes, ISO/IEC 27001 certification and surveillance audits, and enterprise customer or tender assurance requests. The same control and evidence discipline underpins all of them, with the scope agreed for each.
They are the controls that keep the systems producing reliable financial and operational data: who can access what, how changes are approved and released, how systems are monitored, how data is backed up and restored, and how incidents are handled. Auditors test them because every figure in the accounts depends on them.
It depends on the starting point and the scope. A focused readiness review and evidence pack for a single audit can be completed in a few weeks. Building a repeatable control environment takes longer, and we scope it honestly after an assessment rather than promising a date before seeing the environment.
Yes. We prepare the evidence and remediate findings, and we can join walkthroughs and management responses. The auditor's independence and judgement stay untouched - that separation is what makes the evidence credible.
Substantially. ISO/IEC 27001 requires a documented, operating management system with internal audit and evidence. An organisation preparing for certification is building much of the same control discipline an enterprise audit expects. We reuse the work rather than running two programmes.
Find the gaps before your auditor does
Tell us which audit you are facing and when it starts. We will tell you what evidence exists, what does not, and what can realistically be fixed in the time available.
